PlayerGPS is a program that can notify you via SMS, email or AIM if a known fish logs on and begin to play.
I usually don’t get exited when a new piece of poker software are released, most of it are created by people who just want to profit from bad players who thing that using a “poker odds calculator” will turn them into winners. There are of course also good software made for serious players, and PlayerGPS is clearly one of those.
Full disclosure: I’m “just” a midstakes 6-max grinder, so I’m not really the kind of player that PlayerGPS were made for, however, I have several friends who play highstakes, and have seen how they sometimes spend an entire day constantly checking the lobby to see if a certain player are online. Who Needs PlayerGPS?
At small stakes there are plenty of bad players, and you can usually find some good tables, especially if you use the table selection tools from SpadeIT. At mid-and especially highstakes there are far between the truly bad players, so table selection tools have little value – When there are only 10 tables running, and most seats are taken by the same 6 players, you really don’t need software to help you.
Many high stakes players keep an eye on the lobby whenever they are near their computer, just in case a a big fish should log on. It is rare you find someone who can afford to lose tens of thousands dollars, so you can increase your winrate significantly just by being online whenever he is and joining the games he sit in.
PlayerGPS can monitor the lobby on Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars for you, and alert you whenever one of your favorite fish sits at a table. That way you can truly relax instead of watching the lobby, and when a big fish wants to play, you will get a SMS within seconds, and can go join his table well rested and ready.
While you can get some benefits from PlayerGPS at fx. NL100$, I don’t think it is worth paying for it, unless you are having a hard time finding good games, or have a list or truly horrible player, who are so bad that playing against them will dramatically increase your winrate.
