I don’t aim to review all the handgrabbers out there – I focus on those I have used myself, and would recommend, if a friend asked me for advice on “how to datamine”.
How to Get Started Datamining
If you are new to datamining I recommend that you download a free trial from Idleminer. That way you can try setting up your computer to datamine, and get a feel for how everything works, before you decide whether or not to spend any money.
The benefits of datamining compounds over time, as you gather more and more information about your opponents, and you won’t be able to see the real benefits until you have been doing it for a couple of weeks.
Buy Hand Histories
A popular alternative to datamining is to buy hand histories. Below are a list of the most popular sites that sell hand histories.
Read more about why you should buy hand histories.
What is a Handgrabber?
A poker handgrabber is a piece of software that allow you to datamine pokerrooms – Which is the process of saving hand histories from games without participating yourself.
This allows you to gain a wealth of knowledge about your opponents, and as a result improve your play against them.
Notes About Handgrabbers
Handgrabber.NET lists and reviews handgrabbers and other kinds of software and services related to datamining and table selection.
Please note that Handgrabber.NET does not provide information about which pokerrooms allow/disallow datamining and to what extent. In general pokerrooms tend to avoid giving clear answers when asked about datamining, and I simply do not have the time to dig through a dozen different pokerrooms terms & conditions each week just to keep a “legal” section up to date.
If you are in doubt about whether or not datamining is allowed at the pokerroom you play at, I suggest you contact their support department – Be prepared for them having no clue about what a “handgrabber” or “datamining” is, and having to send a couple of emails before you reach someone who can give you an answer.
